A recent phone call from the Hoosier State brought this query. Ralph STILES (Star Route, Box 387, Rome, IN 47574) is seeking to learn more about Oster M. McDONALD (1862-1949) and his wife, Flore N. STILES (8 June 1873-1962). They were married on 4 Sep 1889 in Fairview, Ford County, KS, near Dodge City. The couple later lived in Benton County, AR, near Southwest City, MO, and they are buried at the Southwest City Cemetery.
Oster and Flora had a son, Morgan McDONALD (25 Nov 1892 - 29 Oct 1973) who was a World War I veteran. Morgan McDONALD never married. Anyone with information to share or exchange about the McDONALD family should contact Mr. STILES at his home in Indiana.
Speaking of McDONALD, Mike COSTELLO (c/o Kathy's Kountry Kitchen, Main St., Noel, MO 64854) has recently shown me a collection of old correspondence and receipts. One name that figures prominently in the material is E.B. McDONALD who apparently lived in or around Noel at the turn of the century. Other surnames that I gleaned from Mike COSTELLO's material include: BEACH, BEDELL, BENNETT, BILLINGS, BOYD, BROWN, BROWNING, BUTLER, CHERRY, COOLEY, CLOUD, DeGROFF, ELLIS, FITZPATICK, GIVENS, HARRIS, HOWARD, JENNINGS, JONES, KING, LAWRANCE, LINDSEY, MARSHALL, MILLER, MILLICAN, MORROW, MOSIER, NICELY, NOEL, PALMER, PARISH, PUTMAN, ROBINSON, SHORTHILL, STARNS, STUTZMAN, TALBOT, TAYLOR, THORN, WALLACE, WEBB, WHITE, and WILSON.
Most of the names seem tied to the Noel area, and some have even appeared in Rootbound previously. For more specifics about this collection of documents, contact Mike COSTELLO in Noel.
Mary FOSTER ADAMS (Box 27, 2001 E. Steve Owens Blvd., Miami, OK 74354) would like to exchange information with researchers who are tracking any of the following surnames: ADAMS, BUCKMASTER, FOSTER, LANE, McCASLIN, McMAHON, or TEMPLE. Who can help?
Also from Miami...Mrs. Etta JACKMAN (605 G, N.E., Miami, OK 74354) would like to learn more about Henry JACKMAN and Thomas McCARTY. Do either of those men figure into the research of any of our readers?
Plans are underway for the Oklahoma Genealogical Society's Centennial of '89 Genealogy Conference to be held in Oklahoma City on 8-10 June 1989. It is hoped that this three-day meeting which will be held at the Hilton Inn West will bring many genealogists back to the area where their grandparents participated in one or more of Oklahoma's famous land openings. The conference program and registration material may be obtained by sending a request to: Centennial of '89 Conference, Oklahoma Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 12986, Oklahoma City, OK 73157. Remember to mention that you read about the conference in Rootbound!
Mary HART ROGERS has recently informed Rootbound that a cemetery directory for Mack's Creek, MO, has been completed. Copies are five dollars each, and they may be obtained by writing to the Mack's Creek Chamber of Commerce.
Roy J. LONG (854 Park N.W., Mismi, OK 74354) is searching for any relatives of Alexander Earl KING who was born in Canada on 25 Dec 1834. He married Sina Ann EAST. Mr. KING died in Springfield, MO, and is buried at Shawnee, OK. Are some of his descendants Rootbound readers?
Ozark Root Box: Don't forget that Rootbound's new database, the Ozark Root Box, is now on line and ready to sue. Just send the surnames that you are researching along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope, to Rootbuond in the Hills in care of this newspaper, and I'll let you know the names and addresses of any others who are tracking the same names. What could be simpler?
Happy trails!
