Isn't it great to get good news every now and then! Mary C. BROWN of San Diego, CA, made my day when she wrote to report that her query which ran in Rootbound on September 6th had brought a very helpful answer. Mary credits Rootbound for her success, but the praise needs to be directed to the good lady in Neosho who took the time to read the column and respond.
Who has some tidbit of knowledge that will help one of today's correspondents? Please read on...
Grace JACKSON (2407 University Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93306) is researching the TIPPETT or TIBBETT family who lived in Newton County, MO, in 1880. The father's name was William or Mike. Grace would like to eachange information with anyone who is a descendant of one of the people that she is researching or who knows anything about their history. Two additional surnames that she is tracking are SAMPLES and GROOMS.
Rootbound's good friend, Rose STAUBER (Rt. 3, Box 1084, Grove, OK 74344) is still on the trail of her ROSE family. She is seeking descendants of Stephen Grant ROSE. He was born on 6 May 1863, married Ida May ANDERSON on 5 March 1885 in Newton or McDonald County, and lived on the Newton/McDonald County line northwest of Goodman. Stephen and Ida had seven children: Lizzie Blanche (born 24 Dec 1885), Bertha Maud (1 Jan 1888), S. Raymond (3 Feb 1890), Leona Ethel (25 Sep 1891), Lula Edna (8 Jan 1894), Sylvia Ruth (25 Feb 1896), and Charles Norman (3 Dec 1897).
Stephen Grant ROSE was a son of George Washington ROSE and a brother to Thomas Fletcher ROSE and Elizabeth Baker ROSE PIERCE."
Rose STAUBER would appreciate any help that Rootbound readers can offer on her ROSE line. She is also seeking descendants of William M. MARQUIS who was born on 25 Jan 1830 and died 30 Jan 1885. His daughter, Mary Lucinda MARQUIS, married Thomas Fletcher ROSE. They lived in McDonald County or Newton County.
What follows might be of interest to Rose STAUBER - and hopefully to others as well. Read on...
Mrs. George VANPOOL (Rt. 5, Box 182, Miami, OK 74354) is interested in the following Ozark surnames: VANPOOL, PAINE, FINE, PENDERGRAFT, SPURLOCK, STRAIN, and ROSE. She would appreciate hearing from any potential cousins.
Are any of our Rootbound readers tracking a CALTON line? L.C. MELTON (Rt. 4, Box 15, Miami, OK 74354) would like to exchange information.
The postman recently dropped off a complimentary copy of a quarterly entitled Families of Yancy County, NC. The impressive publication contained copies of vital records, ancestor charts, queries, and a full surname index. Since many people in the Ozarks are rooted in Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Carolinas, this quarterly could be of benefit to some Rootbound readers. A one year subscription may be obtained by sending $10 to Editor Sally WILLIAMS, 418 Hwy 110 North, Whitehouse, TX 75791). And remember to tell Sally that you read about her publication in Rootbound!
