The nicest folks write to Rootbound! Take for example Bea BILLEMEYER (P.O. Box 56, Goodman, MO 64843) who began a recent letter in this fashion:
"I read your column weekly and enjoy it...and the work you are doing."
What a nice lady!
Bea BILLEMEYER (address above) is on the trail of her g-g-g-grandfather, Samuel STANSBERRY, who was born in Tennessee in 1792. Samuel married Matilda McCOLLAN (born 1799, TN) in Washington County, TN, in 1825. The family settled on a farm in Newton County, MO, in 1838 where they raised the following children: Nathan (born 1827, TN), Permelia (1829, TN), Soloman (1830, TN), William (1832, TN - married Julia ALBURTY), Ester (1834, TN) Elizabeth (1836, TN), Sarah (1838, MO), Levi (1840, MO), Jane (1843, MO), and Amanda (1845, MO - married Mr. GILBERT).
Samuel STANSBERRY also had an older daughter, Martha (born 1816, TN) who was from an earlier marriage. Martha married Morgan INGRAM (born 1818, TN) in 1843. She died in 1892 and is buried in the Van Buren Cemetery. Samuel STANSBERRY died in 1865 in St. James, MO.
Morgan and Martha INGRAM were Bea's g-g-grandparents. She would be very interested in learning the name of Martha's mother, and in identifying any descendants of Samuel STANSBERRY. Which of our Rootbound readers can help Bea with her quest?
The following query reaches somewhat beyond our readership area, but perhaps one or two of the names will strike a familiar chord with a few of our area researchers:
Sandra BURROW (1304 Magnolia, Gainesville, TX 76240) is seeking material on Nathan P. HACKWORTH who probably died in Texas County, MO, sometime between 1860 and 1870. Nathan's wife as Sabitha or Tabitha, and they had at least three children: William, Nancy A., and Jerry Preston HACKWORTH. Jerry married Mahuldah Isabell WALLIS in Missouri. Jerry and Mahuldah eventually moved to Sadler, Grayson County, TX, where they are buried.
Sandra is also researching the surname HODGES in Missouri She would be very grateful for any help that our readers could provide.
And here's one for the folks around Jane, MO...
Sylvia JACKSON (P.O. Box 193, Prescott, WA 99348) has an interest in finding out about Lewis Lane McDANIELS (born 1 April 1878) who married Eunice CHANCELLOR in Jane, MO. The couple had four children, including one that was blown away in a tornado and never found!
Sylvia would also like to obtain information on John JACKSON (born circa 1857). Jahn married Vina BAKER, and they lived at Jane with their five sons: George Andrew, Frank, Dudley, Willie, and Finis. Sylvia is waiting in washing to hear from our readers!
Janet K. PEASE (10310 West 62nd, Apt. 202, Arvada, CO 80004) is seeking all data on Andrew POINTS. He was listed on the 1880 census of Crain Creek Township, Barry County, MO, as an eight-year-old residing with the family of William and Adalaid TRUMAN. Andrew is believed to have married Elizabeth WOLFINBARGER. Lucretia DUNCAN possibly became his second wife on 27 July 1905 at Joplin, MO. Andrew was a resident of Lawrence County, MO, in 1900, and was perhaps living in LaClede County, MO, in 1910.
Janet has had several previous queries in Rootbound, each dealing with the POINTS family of Barry County. Any of our readers working that surname would do well to contact Janet and access her information.
The California Genealogical Society (P.O. Box 77105, San Francisco, CA 94107) will be holding its fourth annual Genealogical Fair at St. Mary's Cathedral Conference Center in San Francisco on June 16 and 17. More information may be obtained by writing directly to the Society.
And one further announcement - also from California: Frances LEAHY (6629 West 87th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90045) reports that the Thomas MINOR Society will hold its next reunion in Eureka, CA, August 16-20, 1989. The Thomas MINOR Society was founded in Chew Magna, England, in 1979. It is named for their immigrant ancestor who left Chew Magna in 1629 for Massachusetts Bay Colony. Membership is open to descendants and otehrs with an interest in the family. Further details may be had by contacting Frances at her home in Los Angeles.
How about your reunion? Rootbound is waiting to hear...and we won't keep it a secret!
Happy trails!
